Job Summary: Partners with the superintendent to develop and forward the District Vision and Strategic Plan with special attention to the curriculum, teaching, and learning. Assists the Superintendent with leadership, management, support, and oversight of the Harvard Public School District.Reports to: SuperintendentResponsibilities:Partners with the superintendent and School Committee to lead the Harvard Public Schools in supporting students, families, faculty and staff towards our district vision and strategic goals. Assumes primary responsibility for the systematic review and recommendations of curriculum with attention to diverse perspectives, relevant data, and alignment to state and/or national frameworks. Assumes primary responsibility for the organization, promotion, and approval of professional development to support dynamic learning with access for all students. Collaborate on the development and implementation of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and professional development pathways. Provides and/or promotes professional development opportunities for staff and leaders. Approve and manage the requested courses and workshops. Leads the focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) for the School District. Consult with school leaders and teachers on the response to events in the local, state, national, and global news. Maintain the DEI section of the website for accountability, as a resource, and for recruitment. Collaborate with DEI leaders from other districts as a way to share ideas and gain knowledge from others committed to this work. Regularly reviews data to foster and promote equitable outcomes for students. Collaborates with and supports the work of community groups including, but not limited to Arm in Arm and the UU Social Justice Committee. Plans and implements outreach to parents and the broader community.Analyzes data for teaching and learning, survey results, DEIB, and other purposes. With teachers and leaders, develops and maintains curricular documents including scope and sequences, lesson/unit plans, accommodations, and assessments. Presents to the School Committee, community, and other stakeholders on a regular basis. Assists the Superintendent in establishing and maintaining partnerships with the community.Assists in the planning of the annual operational and capital budget in conjunction with the Superintendent and School Committee and in keeping with the District’s long-term fiscal planning and revenue projections.Assists the Superintendent and staff to analyze problems and develop solutions, which ultimately improve daily operations. Provides the School Committee, Superintendent, and other management staff with appropriate information to assist in the decision-making process.Participates with county and state organizations in staying abreast of curriculum changes, reform, and other district-related issues. Maintains current knowledge of new developments and trends, state and federal programs, and legislation applicable to education, personnel management, and employee relations and makes recommendations to the Superintendent based thereon.Helps principals with the organization, development, and coaching of department leaders, grade level team leaders, vertical team leaders and other groups to advance the district’s focus on Universal Design for Learning. Participates in the hiring practices and recruitment of new staff with a focus on increasing diversity. Helps with orienting and training new teachers on the Educator Evaluation system, DEIB values, curriculum tools, co-teaching, and UDL strategies. Observes and evaluates teachers at all levels in collaboration with the principals. Works directly with the principals/directors in all matters pertaining to the evaluation and adoption of curriculum materials with attention to addressing bias and ensuring diverse perspectives. Maintains confidentiality regarding personnel and work/school-related information for all district employees and students.Promotes the policies and regulations of the School Committee.Assists the Superintendent in the formulation and administration of the District’s procedures, processes, and regulations.In the absence of the Superintendent, acts as the District’s designee.Conducts other business and responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools, including attending School Committee meetings and subcommittee meetings as requested or required by the Superintendent.
